BAFET 2nd Anniversary Tournament
After the 1st Timor-Leste Open Tournament held in March 31 to April 1 this year, there was no other tournament due to the civil unrest that besieged Timor-Leste in April, the effects of which we are still experiencing now. Most expats were evacuated during the crisis and came back only in late June.
Despite the sporadic incidents of violence that are still occurring in Dili, the Badminton Association of Filipinos in East Timor (BAFET) officers and some Pinoy members working in UN decided to hold an All Filipino tournament to commemorate the BAFET 2nd year anniversary and at the same time remember the Independence Day of the Philippines (June 12), an occasion which was not celebrated because most Pinoys were not in the country.
After two days of friendly competition, the following emerged as winners:
Mixed Doubles Category:
Champion - Marie and Rey
1st Runner Up - Violy and Teddy
2nd Runner Up - Jek and Pete
Men's Doubles Category:
Champion - Alper and Edwin
1st Runner Up - Gerry and Andrew
2nd Runner Up - Gerard and Jun
Kudos to all the participants, winners and organizers and Maraming Salamat to our most generous sponsors!
